Erasmus+ Programme

Erasmus+ programme aims to boost skills and employability, as well as modernising Education, Training, and Youth work. The seven year programme will have a budget of €14.7 billion; a 40% increase compared to current spending levels, reflecting the EU’s commitment to investing in these areas.Erasmus+ will provide opportunities for over 4 million Europeans to study, train, gain work experience and volunteer abroad.

Erasmus+ will support transnational partnerships among Education, Training, and Youth institutions and organisations to foster cooperation and bridge the worlds of Education and work in order to tackle the skills gaps we are facing in Europe.It will also support national efforts to modernise Education, Training, and Youth systems. In the field of Sport, there will be support for grassroots projects and cross-border challenges such as combating match-fixing, doping, violence and racism.

Erasmus+ Vocational Education

KA1-Mobility Projects in the field of Vocational Education

Learners Mobility
Erasmus+ provides opportunities for vocational education and training students, trainees, and apprentices to carry out work experience abroad, allowing them to learn new skills or languages.
Work placements abroad improve employability and can ease the transition from education and training to employment, while strengthening European cooperation in vocational education and training.
Vocational students may undertake a traineeship or apprenticeshipabroad, hosted in:

  • A company;
  • A workplace, such as a public organisation or an NGO;
  • A vocational education and training institution, with periods of work-based learning in a company.

Traineeships and apprenticeships may last from two weeks to a year.

Staff Mobility

Erasmus+ provides staff with the opportunity to learn new methods of teaching and training abroad, as well as the opportunity to develop lasting international networks with other vocational education and training institutions.
Vocational education and training professionals can take part in professional development programmes abroad in the following forms:

  • Participation in training;
  • Traineeship in a workplace/enterprise or in a teaching/training institution;
  • Job shadowing/observation in a teaching/training institution, or another relevant organisation;
  • Teaching assignment at a partner institution.

These activities can last from two days to two months, or even up to a year in some cases.

Key Action 2: Cooperation for Innovation and Exchange of Good Practices

Strategic Partnerships in the field of Vocational Education
Vocational education and training institutions can, under Erasmus+, work with others to help improve vocational education and training across Europe. VET institutions can establish Strategic Partnerships and collaborate with enterprises, social partners, and local or regional authorities to deliver high quality vocational education and training which is relevant to national and European labour market needs.
Depending on the objectives and the composition of the Strategic Partnership, projects may support innovation or exchange of good practices. International relationships with key stakeholders, including higher education and adult learning bodies, will help to share new approaches and improve vocational education and training across Europe.
